HiCap Parents Council Non-Discrimination and Anti-Racism Policy

Adopted 7/2/2019

HiCap Parents Council Non-Discrimination and Anti-Racism Policy:

The HiCap Parents Council is committed to advocating for a safe, inclusive, and supportive school environment where students and families are valued and treated with respect, fairness and dignity. Our District is enriched by our diverse community and the Council celebrates this.

The HiCap Parents Council expressly condemns discrimination on any basis and all forms of harassment, bullying, violence and threatening behavior.  ‘Harassment’ includes any actions in relation to a child that are likely to humiliate, offend, intimidate or distress them, or their family.  Bullying is a form of harassment. The HiCap Parents Council also condemns treating someone unfairly for reporting or helping others report an incident of discrimination or harassment.

Further, the HiCap Parents Council condemns any form of racism, racist behavior and racial discrimination (including direct and indirect racism, racial vilification and harassment) either within the Northshore School District learning and working environment, or within its curriculum.

The Council believes that no one should have any negative action taken against them on the basis of race, religion, national origin, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, HiCap status, economic status, or disability and will work to ensure that individuals and groups are not disadvantaged or harassed because of these.

The HiCap Parents Council believes the safety, security, health, and well-being of all employees, students, parents, guardians in our schools is of the utmost importance. All children have the right to attend school free from discrimination and harassment.
