Intro to the Council - Group Norms and Expectations

  • The HiCap Parents Council is a Non-profit organization
    • Advocate for community rather than self
    • Fiduciary responsibility
    • May not advocate for political campaigns
  • What do we do?
    • Create, maintain and/or facilitate Class lists
    • Join the PTA and Attend PTA meetings for our designated school
    • Attend events such as Info nights, back to school socials, etc at our school
    • Send email to class parent reps or to teachers to send info to all parents
    • Get to know the principal and front office staff. Useful to get tables at events
    • HiCap people can sit on interview process for HiCap Schools
  • Group Norms
    • Do not deal with personal kid issues in district meetings
    • Do not lose your temper in district meetings
    • Do not schedule a meeting with admins just to vent
    • Do not bad mouth admins to the public
    • Be aware that all info given to us at district meetings is not always ready to be communicated to public.

      • Work toward a representative population in our district in HiCap
      • Multi language testing

      • Post Events on website
      • Take Meeting Minutes then post on website when confidentiality has expired (when district announces it, it's public and can be posted)

      • Arrange for speakers relevant to the HiCap community
    • Election Coordinator
      • Coordinate the Nomination and election ballot process (Cognito)
  • Name tags: about $3 each person

    • Satisfaction Survey: Conduct occasionally to take temperature of program

    • EAP Events – EAP reps to organize together or individually

    • PayPal is where donation money goes, moved to bank account occasionally
